The PPDSM-721-MTCP brings a serial RS-232 device and an RS-485 device onto an Ethernet network through a single compact unit. Its virtual COM support, provided by the VxComm utility, lets existing PC software address the device server's serial ports as standard COM ports, so legacy serial applications can be kept in service while the network is upgraded.
The unit also works as a Modbus TCP to RTU/ASCII gateway for SCADA and HMI systems that speak Modbus TCP. Six digital inputs with latched and counter functions and seven open-collector digital outputs add local I/O, and the device can be powered either from a PoE switch using IEEE 802.3af Class 1 or from a +12 ~ 48 VDC terminal block.
The metal case, watchdog timer and ESD protection on the serial port are intended for demanding environments. The package includes a CA-0910 cable, and the unit is rated for an operating range of -25 ~ +75 °C and wall mounting.
