The I-7521 CR lets a host PC address individual RS-232 devices on an RS-485 network. The converter removes the address field from incoming commands and passes the remaining command to its local RS-232 port, then returns the device's reply to the host over RS-485. This makes it practical to attach several serial devices to one multidrop bus.
Unlike slave-type converters, which depend on the host PC to function, this master-type unit can act on its own. It supports dual-watchdog commands, power-up and safe values for the digital outputs, and real-time monitoring and control of the onboard I/O. Each RS-232 interface has a 1 KB queue buffer.
The CR variant has a blue cover and is supplied with 2 digital inputs (dry contact, non-isolated) and 3 open-collector digital outputs rated for +30 VDC and 100 mA. The RS-485 port is isolated to 3000 VDC, and the unit accepts +10 to 30 VDC input with reverse polarity protection. It is rated for -25 to +75 °C and mounts on DIN-rail or wall.
