GW-7828 CR is a gateway that lets Modbus RTU masters read data from M-Bus (Meter-Bus) slave devices. It is intended for remote reading of consumption meters, and also for sensors and actuators that use the M-Bus standard. Engineers can integrate M-Bus devices into an existing Modbus RTU system without writing M-Bus drivers.
The gateway responds to Modbus RTU function codes 0x03 and 0x04 to read M-Bus meter data, and supports up to 100 M-Bus slave devices. Serial communication is available through RS-232, RS-422 or RS-485, and two rotary switches set the baud rates for the serial port and the M-Bus port.
The M-Bus port includes over-current and short-circuit protection, with 3750 Vrms photo-coupler isolation. Firmware can be updated through the serial port. Power consumption is 1.8 W at 24 VDC with one slave device and 11.8 W with 100 slave devices.
