Choosing DAQ hardware: PCI board, USB I/O or Ethernet I/O
Sample rate, simultaneous sampling, latency, isolation, distance and drivers compared for PCI/PCIe DAQ boards, USB I/O and Ethernet I/O.
DAQ boards, USB and Ethernet I/O and signal conditioning for test benches, laboratories and vibration measurement.
Test and measurement applications need accurate, well-defined signal acquisition that can be controlled from your own software. Typical examples are test benches, end-of-line testing, laboratory setups and long-term monitoring of temperature, pressure or vibration. ICP DAS offers data acquisition (DAQ) hardware in several form factors, from plug-in boards for PCs to USB and Ethernet modules placed next to the device under test.
PCI and PCI Express boards provide multi-function analog and digital I/O, analog outputs and high-density digital I/O inside a PC. Daughter boards and terminal boards bring the signals out to screw terminals, with relay and signal conditioning options. Drivers and libraries for common programming environments make the boards usable from your own test software.
USB I/O modules connect to a laptop or PC without opening it, which suits mobile and laboratory setups. Ethernet I/O such as the ET-2200 series measures close to the test object, including models with high-speed analog and RTD inputs, and several PCs on the network can read the same module.
Signal conditioning modules isolate and convert sensor signals before they reach the DAQ hardware. The SG-3000 series covers signals such as thermocouples and IEPE accelerometers, and isolated power modules supply sensors without creating ground loops.
A test PC with a PCI multi-function board measures supply voltages and currents of the unit under test, while a relay daughter board switches loads and test signals. The test software controls the board through the vendor driver, stores the results per serial number and prints a test report. Temperature checks during a burn-in phase are added with an Ethernet RTD module that several test stations can read.
Tell us the signals, ranges and sample rates you need, and we will suggest suitable boards or modules.
The PET-7017-10 is a PoE-powered Ethernet analog input module for engineers who need voltage or current measurement on a networked I/O node. Its inputs can be set as 10 differential or 20 single-ended channels in software, and each channel can be given its own range, so one module can serve mixed sensor types on the same network. Each channel offers a choice of voltage ranges from ±150 mV to ±10 V and current ranges of ±20 mA, 0 ~ 20 mA and 4 ~ 20 mA, selected with jumpers. Resolution is 16-bit, and the module has two sampling modes: normal mode at 10 Hz total and fast mode at 50 Hz total. Open wire detection is available for 4 ~ 20 mA inputs, and differential channels are rated for 240 Vrms overvoltage protection.Configuration and monitoring are handled through a built-in web server with Web HMI, and the module supports Modbus TCP and Modbus UDP. Access is controlled by ID, password and IP filter. The unit is powered either from PoE (IEEE 802.3af, Class 1) or from a +12 ~ +48 VDC terminal block, and it mounts on a DIN rail.ApplicationsBuilding automationFactory automationMachine automationRemote maintenanceRemote diagnosisTesting equipment
