The USB-2255-64 adds 32 digital inputs and 32 digital outputs to a PC over USB 2.0. Every input can be wired for dry or wet contacts and can run as a 32-bit counter, which suits event counting and status monitoring. The 32 outputs are open-collector, sink (NPN), rated 3.5 to 50 VDC load voltage and 500 mA per channel, and LED indicators show the state of each channel.
Reliability features include a hardware watchdog with a 1.6 second timeout and a programmable software watchdog. Power-on and safe values can be set for the digital outputs, so the module can hold a defined state if the host stops responding. The module accepts dual +10 to +30 VDC power inputs, so a second supply can take over if the first is interrupted.
The built-in two-port USB hub allows up to five modules to be daisy-chained from one PC port. Each module ships with a 1.8 m lockable USB cable. An API library with demos and source code is supplied for Windows and Linux, covering VB, C++, C#.NET, VB.NET and LabVIEW, and a setup and I/O test tool is included.
