The I-7188EXD-MTCP is a programmable serial-to-Ethernet device server with one RS-232 and one RS-485 port, bridging serial equipment onto a 10 Base-T network. It also works as a Modbus TCP to RTU gateway, so SCADA and HMI software using Modbus TCP can communicate with serial Modbus devices.
ICP DAS supplies XServer and Modbus libraries in C for building custom applications. These tools let engineers bring serial devices onto Ethernet and Internet communication and use the standard Modbus protocol with SCADA packages. The manufacturer cites Indusoft, ISaGRAF, DasyLab, Trace Mode, Citect and iFix as examples.
Hardware is built around an 80188 CPU at 40 MHz with 512 KB flash and 512 KB SRAM, plus a real-time clock, watchdog timer and a 5-digit 7-segment LED display. An I/O expansion bus supports one X-board, with a range of more than 50 boards offering A/D, D/A, D/I, D/O and serial functions. This blue-cover CR variant is supplied with the same specification as the standard model.
