The ECAT-2016-3 is an EtherCAT SubDevice that brings three strain gauge or load cell inputs onto an EtherCAT network. Each channel accepts a full-bridge resistor bridge directly, with 16-bit resolution and a sampling rate of 1 kHz per channel. Input status is returned through the process data, so an EtherCAT Main Device can read the measurements without custom protocol work.
Two RJ-45 ports allow the module to be daisy-chained, which keeps cabling simple and lets the network be laid out as a star, line or ring. The input and output circuitry is isolated to help protect the module from interference and harsh conditions. Conformance testing with the EtherCAT conformance test tool has been completed.
Each channel can be configured individually, with input ranges from ±10 V down to ±25 mV selectable in software. The range and filter setting function is not supported on this module, and open wire detection is not provided. A +10 V excitation voltage output is included, and the module is housed in a plastic DIN-rail enclosure with a removable terminal block.
