The R-9084 is a high-speed counter and frequency measurement module for the RIO-98x0 redundant I/O system. Each of its eight channels provides a 32-bit up-counter and frequency measurement from 1 Hz to 10 kHz, suited to pulse counting, speed and rate monitoring in automation and test applications.
Inputs accept 3 VDC or 8 VDC Schmitt-trigger or TTL levels. Each channel can count on falling, rising or both edges, and a 1 to 32767 us digital filter, off by default, can be enabled to suppress contact bounce on noisy pulse lines. Channels are electrically isolated from one another, and the module provides 3000 VDC isolation between the power supply and the backplane bus.
The module connects to field wiring through an RDB-S09 or RDB-D09 terminal board, which also supports termination board disconnection detection to help identify wiring faults. In a redundant configuration, the system keeps running if a single I/O module fails, with a redundant switching time of less than 1 ms.
