The MSM-508FT-T is an 8-port Layer 2 managed switch that pairs six RJ-45 10/100Base-TX ports with two multi-mode 100Base-FX ST fibre ports. Fibre transmission is immune to EMI and RFI, which makes it a good choice where links must be kept clear of electrical exposure, surges, lightning or chemical corrosion.
The switch can be configured through its RS-232 console or over Ethernet using Telnet or a web browser. Managed functions include 802.1Q tag-based VLAN, port-based VLAN, 802.1p QoS, port trunking, spanning tree, cable testing and port mirroring. Built-in ICP DAS Cyber-Ring technology lets several switches form a redundant ring that recovers from a fibre or copper link failure in approximately 20 ms.
Two DC power inputs (+12 VDC to +48 VDC) can be connected to live sources at the same time, so one source takes over if the other fails. A relay output signals power or network link failures, and Modbus/TCP, Modbus/RTU and OPC let a SCADA system monitor the status of the Ethernet and fibre ports.
