I-7188EX CR is a compact programmable automation controller built around an 80188-40 CPU and the MiniOS7 operating system. It combines a 10BASE-T Ethernet port with RS-232 and RS-485 serial interfaces, so it can bridge serial field devices onto an Ethernet network and act as a Modbus-based link to SCADA software.
Application development uses the C language toolkit supplied with MiniOS7, including Modbus libraries. The unit provides 512 KB of flash, 512 KB of SRAM and 2 KB of EEPROM, a real-time clock, a watchdog timer and a 64-bit hardware serial number for device identification.
Hardware can be extended through a single I/O expansion bus, which accepts one X-board. The source documentation references more than 50 compatible boards offering analogue, digital and serial functions. The blue-cover CR ordering code is the standard variant offered here.
