PDS-220FC CR is a programmable device server that carries RS-232 and RS-422/485 serial traffic over multi-mode fibre. Fitting it to a serial device lets you extend the link to 2 km through a 100Base-FX SC port, where copper cabling would suffer from electrical noise, ground potential differences or the risk of sparks.
Because the fibre path is immune to electromagnetic interference and does not radiate, the unit suits sites with heavy motor, relay or welding equipment, flammable atmospheres and high-security installations. The built-in MiniOS7 runtime and programmable structure let engineers tailor the device server to their own network application, and the Modbus TCP to RTU/ASCII gateway function allows Modbus TCP clients to reach serial slaves.
The unit mounts on a DIN rail, is powered from 12 to 48 VDC with reverse polarity protection, and is rated for operation from -25 to +75 °C. A watchdog timer and ESD protection on the serial port support reliable operation in harsh environments.
