The EC4-ENC2A is a slim EtherCAT SubDevice that connects two absolute encoders to an EtherCAT network. Each channel works independently and both are sampled simultaneously, so engineers can capture position data from two axes in the same cycle.
Each channel accepts either SSI or unidirectional BiSS-C transmission, with data up to 48 bits including error and warning bits and CRC in BiSS-C mode. Transmission runs at up to 10 MHz, and cable delays are compensated automatically in BiSS-C mode for runs of up to 70 metres. Binary and Gray encoding are supported, and the CRC polynomial can be customised up to CRC-8.
The module supports Free-Run and Distributed Clock operation, with a stated EtherCAT cycle time of 100 µs. It is powered from +24 V DC, provides 2000 VDC photo-isolation on the encoder inputs, and is housed in a plastic casing for DIN-rail or wall mounting. The ordering code listed here carries the RoHS designation.
