The ECAT-2513 CR is a 4-port EtherCAT junction SubDevice module for building flexible EtherCAT networks. It accepts one inbound connection and offers three outbound RJ-45 ports, so a daisy-chain run can be split into branches, which simplifies cabling in machines and panels.
Splitting a network into separately wired sections limits the impact of a fault. If a SubDevice stops responding or a cable is disconnected, only the devices in that section are affected, and the rest of the network can continue to communicate with the Main Device controller. This makes commissioning and fault finding quicker, since each section can be checked on its own.
The module supports daisy-chain and star connections, and is designed for DIN-rail mounting in a plastic housing with reverse polarity protection on its +10 ~ +30 VDC supply. The source material also describes a ring-based cable redundancy topology for this product family, which keeps the control system running if a cable fails on one side.
