The PPDS-721D-MTCP links serial equipment to an Ethernet network. Its built-in RS-232 and RS-485 ports can be presented to a PC as virtual COM ports using the VxComm utility, so existing serial software can keep working over the network. It also acts as a Modbus TCP to RTU/ASCII gateway, which suits SCADA and HMI systems that speak Modbus TCP to talk to RTU or ASCII devices.
Beyond gateway duties, the unit is a programmable device server with on-board I/O. It provides 6 wet-contact digital inputs with latched and counter functions, and 7 open-collector sink (NPN) digital outputs. A 5-digit 7-segment LED display and a Power/PoE indicator give local status, and a watchdog timer is included for unattended operation.
Power can come from an IEEE 802.3af Class 1 PoE switch over a standard Category 5 cable, or from a +12 ~ 48 VDC supply on the removable terminal block. The plastic casing mounts on a DIN rail or a wall, and the unit is rated for -25 ~ +75 °C operation. A CA-0910 cable is included with this ordering code.
