The PCIe-S112i CR adds two RS-232 serial ports to a PCI Express x1 slot. Each port has a 256-byte hardware FIFO and runs full-duplex at speeds from 300 to 921600 bps, which suits engineers connecting several serial devices to one PC.
The i version isolates the data lines of each port with photocouplers, rated at 3000 VDC. This breaks ground loops, limits common-mode voltages and blocks voltage spikes, so a fault on one circuit is less likely to affect the other. On-board ESD protection rated at ±4 kV diverts static discharge away from sensitive circuitry.
The card is designed for intelligent devices such as bar code readers, serial printers, intelligent sensors, instrumentation and any equipment with an RS-232 port. Drivers are provided for 32/64-bit Windows XP through 10 and for Linux kernels 2.6.31 to 5.16.0.
