The EC4-ENC4A is a slim EtherCAT SubDevice that brings four independent absolute encoder channels onto an EtherCAT network. Each channel reads SSI or BiSS-C (unidirectional) encoders, so one module can cover several axes, with all channels sampled simultaneously.
Position data is processed on the fly within the EtherCAT cycle, and the module supports both Free-Run and Distributed Clock (DC) operation. Encoder position resolution is up to 48 bits, including error and warning bits and CRC in BiSS-C mode. Transmission runs at up to 10 MHz, and BiSS-C cable delays are compensated automatically over cable runs of up to 70 metres.
The module draws a maximum of 4.5 W from a +24 V DC supply and has a plastic housing for DIN-rail or wall mounting. It is specified for operation from -25 to +75 °C, with encoder inputs photo-isolated at 2000 VDC.
