The USB-2051 CR adds 16 isolated digital inputs to a PC over a full-speed USB 2.0 connection. It needs no external supply, as it draws its power from the USB bus, and it works without a driver installation, so engineers can connect it and start reading inputs quickly.
Each input can be wired for either dry contact or wet contact signals, and the sink or source behaviour is selected through the wiring. Every channel can also operate as a 32-bit counter, which suits pulse counting and event tallying. The 16 status LEDs show the state of each input, and a hardware and programmable software watchdog with configurable power-on and safe values helps the module keep running in demanding environments.
For application development, an API library and demo code are available for Windows and Linux, supporting VB, C++, C#.NET, VB.NET and LabVIEW. A utility tool is provided for configuration and quick I/O testing. The order includes a 1.5M USB cable (CA-USB15), and the cable can be locked in place.
