The R-9040 brings 32 isolated digital input channels to the RIO-98x0 redundant I/O system. Each channel accepts sink or source wiring, so the same module suits both NPN and PNP field devices. Channels 0 to 15 share one ground group and channels 16 to 31 share another.
Input stability is handled in hardware. A low-pass digital filter adjustable from 1 to 32767 µs suppresses contact bounce, and each channel reads an ON level of 18 to 30 VDC against an OFF level below 11 VDC. The module also checks its own channel components and reports faults, while a diagnostic function and per-channel LEDs support commissioning and troubleshooting.
The R-9040 connects to field signals through a terminal board, and the system detects if that board is disconnected to protect wiring integrity. Isolation of 3000 VDC between the power supply and the backplane bus helps reduce noise in industrial environments. Because the module supports redundancy, the system keeps running if a single I/O module fails, with a switching time below 1 ms.
